Technology Program

SHS Technology Program

The Servite High School Technology Program provides students the opportunity to hone their 21st Century technology skills while at the same time enhancing their learning of Servite’s curriculum. The program seeks to form students’ moral and ethical understanding, guide students’ application of technology, and prepare them to meet the ever-changing technological demands relevant to higher education and the workplace. To this end, Servite provides all students with a laptop that can access their virtual classrooms, eTexts, and learning resources.

Since 2007, Servite has been a leader in utilizing technology in a 1-to-1 environment. With regular evaluation and professional development, Servite continually improves and remains current on advances in educational technology.

Technology Program Information

SHS Technology Program:

Class of 2018 and 2017 will use a school-owned Lenovo laptop + family owned iPad. All other classes will use a school-owned Lenovo laptop.

The Servite owned laptop for the 2016-17 school year is a Lenovo laptop.

Class of 2020 are not required to have an iPad.

How it works:

Each student is assigned a school-owned tablet PC. Each laptop is imaged with the necessary software and security settings. Students will then coordinate with their teachers in obtaining access to their e-texts.

E-Textbooks: The use of electronic books allows a student to carry nearly all of his school books on his device and gives him access to additional electronic resources including animated maps, videos, language labs, demonstrations, practice problems, quizzes, and tests. This also provides students with access to these books from virtually anywhere.

School curriculum has been developed around and enhanced by the technology program, allowing students and teachers to better collaborate with each other. In the classroom, students submit homework, receive teachers' notes and have their classwork monitored and checked electronically by their teachers.

Tools and Programs

Some additional tools and programs available to help students take learning to the next level include:

• Office 2007 Suite

• Moodle

• Aeries

• E-books and E-materials

• Turnitin.com

• Grammarly.com

• Britannica Online

• Oxford Digital Reference Suite

Backup Plan

All student work should be saved to cloud based servers like Google Drive. Each student will have 5GBs of storage within our Google EDU account. Students will then be able to access their saved documents via the "Cloud" (aka Google Drive), on any other internet connected device (iPad, another computer or smartphone).

Security Measures

All internet traffic and content is controlled through Servite's proprietary proxy server whether the student is on campus or at home while using the school owned laptop. The student owned iPads will have the same content filter while connected to our network, but will be under each family's restrictions while off campus. Please see our Parent Technology Resource Page for more information.
