Wrestling Takes 2nd at the Cossarek Classic, Finishes with 11 Placers and 3 Champions
After a dual win over Villa Park earlier in the week, Wrestling took 2nd at this weekend's Cossarek Classic coming home with 11 placers and three champions to continue their hot start to the season.
Andrew Silva (113), Valor Buck (152) and Tristen Wilson (195) all won titles in their respective weight classes getting the job done in dominant fashion. After a first round bye, Silva won his second round and quarterfinal match by pin in the first period then won his semi by decision before defeating Calvary Chapel 14-5 in the finals. The road the the finals was similar for Buck who opened the tournament with back to back pins before winning his quarters match by tech fall. He then defeated Santa Fe by decision in the semis and Calvary Chapel 8-6 in the finals. Wilson also started the tournament with a bye then earned three straight pins to pave his way to the championship match where he defeated St. John Bosco 3-1 to not only win the title but also earn Athlete of the Week honors for Servite.
Marcus Medina (120), Josh Medina (132) and Teddy Okada (138) finished as runner-ups for the Fight'n Friars while Marcos Magaña (132) and Daniel Magaña (145) took 3rd. Rounding out the placers for Servite were Anthony Sanchez (126) in 8th, Roy Okada (145) in 5th and Griffin Higa (160) in 7th.
Wrestling action continues Friday when the Friars compete in the La Costa Canyon Tournament.
