Eight Wrestlers Selected for Preseason OC All-Star Match

The All-Star Classic is an exhibition dual that showcases some of the best wrestlers from across the county at each weight class. This year the bouts are set for Nov. 6 at Canyon High School, in Anaheim, California, at 6:30 pm.

The Friars of Servite High leads the county with eight participants in Andrew Silva (120), Marcos Magana (135), Josh Medina (135), Roy Okada (142), Daniel Magana (142), Teddy Okada (145), Valor Buck (155), and Tristan Wilson at 195-pounds.

Arizona State signed Trey Munoz (Trabuco Hills) is scheduled to participate in the event and showcase the wrestling skills that helped him advanced to the CIF state tournament last year.

Kavika Aholelei Sr. (Yorba Linda) vs. Andrew Silva Sr. (Servite)
Aholelei was the lone CIF place winner for the Mustangs last season. He is a senior that placed third at 113-pounds and was fourth at the southern section masters meet where he advanced to the state tournament. At the state tournament, he finished with a 2-2 record. Silva was one of seven CIF masters meet qualifiers for the Friars last season. He was an individual CIF champion, fourth at masters meet, and a state qualifier at 106-pounds.

Marcos Magana Sr. (Servite) vs. Ali Kaveh Sr. (Aliso Niguel)
Magana is a senior that represented Servite at CIF. He was fourth in the tournament and advanced to the master meet tournament where he finished with a 1-2 record after losing tight matches to the 9th and 10th place winner. Kaveh is also a senior who was third at the CIF coastal division at 126-pounds. Kaveh placed seventh at masters and was a state qualifier.

Steven Kroesen Sr. (Laguna Hills) vs. Josh Medina Jr. (Servite)
Kroesen is the second wrestler for Laguna Hills competing at the O.C. All-Star Dual-Meet. Last season, he finished fifth at both CIF, and the masters meet tournament and was a state qualifier at 126-pounds. Medina has been solid for the Friars despite haven't placed at CIF due to injuries. He had a solid season as a junior that saw him placed second at Five Counties. Medina is coming off from conquering the competition at the World Challenge tournament, one of the top pre-season events in California.

Roy Okada So. (Servite) vs. Trent Houle So. (Capo Valley)
Houle advanced to CIF as a freshman after placing third in his respective league tournament. Houle finished with a 1-2 record at CIF at 126-pounds.

Daniel Magana Sr. (Servite) vs. Luke Gayer Fr. (Calvary Chapel)
Magana is one of the top wrestlers for the Friars. As a junior, he placed second at CIF and advanced to the masters meet tournament where he finished with a 2-2 record. He was solid for Servite after having placed at Five Counties, Sierra Nevada, and the Clovis West Shootout. Gayer is only a freshman for the Church Boyz. He recently competed at the World Challenge where he finished with a 3-2 record.

Teddy Okada Sr. (Servite) vs. Dylan Zotea So. (Fountain Valley)
Injuries sidetracked Okada's goal to become a state placer for the Friars. Due to his injury at the Sierra Nevada tournament, Okada was out the entire 2017-18 season. Okada recently competed at the World Challenge where he won the event by defeating 2018 state champion Jaden Abas (Rancho Bernardo) 7-3. As a freshman for the Barons, Zotea had a successful season that saw him placed third at Five Counties, CIF, and advanced to the masters meet tournament where he finished top 12 in his weight class.

Andrew Sparks Jr. (Calvary Chapel) vs. Valor Buck Jr. (Servite)
Sparks was one of six wrestlers that placed at CIF and helped the Church Boyz place fourth as a team. Sparks placed sixth at CIF at 126-pounds..

Tristen Wilson Jr. (Servite) vs. Rodrigo Hernandez, Capo Valley
Wilson was a CIF place winner as a sophomore for the Friars. He placed fifth at 195-pounds and went 1-2 at the masters meet tournament.
