Posted 06/06/2018 09:37PM

Just prior to graduation, senior defender Nicolas Hernandez announced his commitment to play soccer at Chapman University. The two-year Varsity letterman shared, "I chose Chapman because I know I will be happy there. I will be setting myself up for a successful future while continuing to play soccer for a competitive program."

He went on to say how he also likes that Chapman is close by so that his family, especially his Papa, will have the chance to watch him play. He closed by saying, "I am excited for the many new possibilities and experiences to come.

Hernandez, who plans to study Health Science at Chapman, helped lead the Friars to their 5th consecutive Trinity League title his senior season while being named 2nd Team All-Trinity League. He was also selected to the Lotto Sport Showcase All-Tournament team after Servite Soccer won the team title.

Coach Jon Spencer shared, "Nic exemplifies what it means to be a man of Servite. He is a hardworking, faith-filled leader who put the team first this season playing wherever we asked him to. He has a great work ethic and will be perfect fit at Chapman with Coach Carrillo. We are excited and proud of Nic for earning this opportunity."

In addition to soccer, Hernandez is involved in campus leadership at Servite and has volunteered with Higher Ground and Her Servants Kitchen.

With his commitment, Hernandez becomes the 4th soccer player from the Class of 2018 to sign to play collegiate soccer joining Corbin Mercado (LMU), Jose Sosa (Pacific) and Marc Trejo (Vanguard). When he arrives at Chapman he will be met by a familiar face in Noah Ferrel '16 who also plays for the Panthers.

Hernandez is thankful for all the people in his life who helped him get to where he is today. He shared, "Without my family I would not be the person I am today. Thank you for supporting me and trusting me my entire life. To my coaches, thank you for working with me all these years to develop and learn, and working with me to find the right college program. Thank you all for helping me get into Chapman. Everyone who has supported me has my thanks. I am beyond grateful."

Congratulations Nic! Servite wishes you the best as you head to college!
