Water Polo Advances to the CIF Quarterfinals
Posted 11/02/2017 11:56PM

Servite Water Polo is moving on! The Friars defeated Costa Mesa at home tonight in the 2nd Round of the CIF Division 3 playoffs and will take on Woodbridge in Saturday's quarterfinal (details TBD). Jack Dunbar and Guillermo Ocasio netted five goals each while Christian Martinez tallied four assists and three goals of his own. Jon Lien had seven saves in the goal while Dunbar, Chris Canlas, Peyton Carey and Jack Peterson recorded two steals apiece.

It was a physical fight from the start with the score tied 2-2 at the end of the 1st and 6-6 at halftime. The Friars came out of the break rejuvenated taking a slight advantage 11-9 heading to the 4th. Martinez won the sprint to give Servite the momentum and the Friars didn't let down. Despite being double-teamed, Ocasio scored back-to-back goals including a backhander from 15 meters out that brought the crowd to their feet and put Servite up 13-9. With the four goal advantage, the Friars settled in and defended their goal on their way to a 13-10 victory.
