Water Polo Earns Opening Round Playoff Win over Moorpark, 15-9

Servite Water Polo defeated Moorpark 15-9 yesterday to open the CIF Div 3 playoffs. Christian Martinez and Guillermo Ocasio led the offensive charge for the Friars netting six goals each while Jon Lien manned the goal tallying 12 saves. Chris Canlas and Jack Dunbar were also strong defensively recording three and four steals respectively.

After making the trip 70+ miles to Moorpark, the Friars quickly entered into a battle with the defending Coastal Canyon League champion Musketeers trading goals in the first quarter. Up 5-4, the Friars took control in the 2nd as Martinez and Ocasio each came out firing, combing for four goals to help give Servite the 10-5 advantage at half. In the 3rd, Lien and the Friars defense put their stamp on the game holding Moorpark to only one score while the Servite offense continued to put on a show to extend their lead 14-6 after three complete. Matt Kuehl took over in the goal in the 4th while the other Friars' starters got some rest. Cameron Ela came in and added the final goal for Servite as the Friars earned a trip to the second round.

Servite will be back in the pool Thursday when they host Costa Mesa at 4pm in the 2nd round of playoffs.
