Jose Sosa '18 has committed to play Division 1 soccer at the University of the Pacific, the Friars midfielder announced on Twitter Tuesday.
Sosa, a 3-year Varsity letterman for the Friars, was attracted to Pacific because, like Servite, it's a small private school with a growingly competitive soccer program. He was impressed after watching the Tigers during their 2016-17 season in which they finished 2nd in the West Coast Conference with a 13-4-2 overall record. While at Pacific Sosa plans to study Business Management.
A 2nd Team All-Trinity League selection, Sosa helped lead the Friars to their 4th consecutive Trinity League title last season while tallying four goals and 14 assists. He was influential in Servite's tournament success as well; the Friars won the So Cal HS Classic and finished as Runner-Ups in the Lotto Sport Showcase where Sosa was named to the All-Tournament team.
Coach Jon Spencer shared, "We are excited that Jose Sosa has chosen to attend University of the Pacific. Jose has worked hard on and off the field to get this opportunity. One of his biggest attributes is that he has displayed the determination to improve his game and develop into the best player he can be. We are blessed to be able to work with Jose for one more year before he heads off to college. He will be an important part of our team and continue to lead us into the season ahead. We are proud that our young men continue to prove that hard work pays off. Congratulations Jose!"
Sosa is the second Friar from the Class of 2018 to commit to play collegiate soccer joining Corbin Mercado who is headed to LMU.
