Name: Roman Alexander Curiel

From: Servite High School

Attending: Whittier College

Studying: sound design for theater major, business administration minor

How did you get involved in theater? I became involved in theater because I had heard that Servite had a very strong technical theater program. I have been involved with working live concert sound since I was in seventh grade, and I wanted to share my experience and talents with Servite Theater. I also wanted to learn more about theater sound since I had never experienced producing sound for up to 26 actors on stage at the same time.

Why did you choose Whittier College? I chose Whittier College because I realized that I would be doing quite a bit of traveling after college. I decided that I wanted to stay close to home during my college years because this career that I have chosen, is going to take me throughout the United States, and internationally.

What do you hope to get out of your time in college? During my time in college I hope to expand my knowledge of audio design and engineering. I would like to design for small and large plays, and understand more about motion picture sound, as well. I also plan on learning the proper steps to become a successful owner of a large audio production company. I hope that my minor in business will help me reach this goal, as well.

What do you hope to do with your degree in sound design/business management? Once I complete my education, I will be well versed in both concert and theater sound. I feel that I will have the confidence and knowledge to work for an audio production company, where I will be able to incorporate both skills. A great deal of my time and experience has been in theater sound. I plan to bring the experience that I gained from Servite theater and Whittier College to the company that I will work for.

What is the best advice you have received? The best advice that I have received is to keep God first. We never walk alone in this world. He is always with us. Other great advice that I have received is to live in the moment, and not to rush into things so quickly. Enjoy the moments we have while we are young, because we will never pass this way again. There will be plenty of time in the future to be working, God willing.
