A Message from the Servite Class of 1972

Hello from the Alumni Office,

The Class of 1972 has continued to be involved with the Class of 2022. During this school year, the Class of 1972 came back and volunteered during the Sophomore tire changing project and the Sophomore Formation Day. This week, they sent a letter to your sons to offer some encouragement and perspective on everything going on in the world. Please enjoy below. I pray you and your families are safe and healthy.

To the Class of 2022,

We just wanted to reach out to you and wish you well as you carry-on during the quarantine. We have been thinking about you. We know you have heard from Servite administrators, teachers, and counselors about the opportunity and need to remain focused and productive at this time. No doubt the mere drudgery of isolation makes the idea of working on anything seem unrewarding.

Wanted to see if we might encourage you to consider a different perspective. Raise the volume a bit.

Think for a minute about how much you are missing your friends and the interactions you would be experiencing on campus were it not shuttered. Think about the joy of sports, pushing yourself or teammates to excel. Think about the reflective and sympathetic discussions you might be having with teachers and counselors. Think about the social events, dances, concerts, you are deprived of and yearning to enjoy again. Think about the club activities and shared interests in robotics, arts, debate you cannot enjoy. Think about the day that you can crowd into a car and head to the beach. Think of all the things you took for granted before COVID-19 held the world hostage.

And then commit yourself to the life you will lead when we can emerge from quarantine.

While COVID-19 has forced an unprecedented implosion of normal life around the globe it is providing each of us with an opportunity to start anew. Life does that, it forces us to adjust to changes -- going off to college, starting a new job, losing a job, getting married, possibly getting divorced, ending a career, losing loved ones. It forces us to take account of where we are and where we want to be.

When you do see your friends again and can attend classes we hope you are a stronger, more compassionate, more worldly person than you were before the crisis.

Take a moment to pray for those afflicted by the virus and those left scared and without resources. Commit to making a difference in yourself and to being the "faith-filled leaders" the world needs now more than ever.

Your brothers in Christ,

Class of 1972
