Pay It Forward to the Class of 2024

Dear Members of the Class of 1974,

This fall will mark 50 years since we walked onto the Servite campus as freshmen! You may have been nervous or excited, or both. However, for many of us, our Servite years set a foundation for life. And now, I am asking you to consider passing on your wisdom to the Class of 2024.

For the last three years, the incoming freshman class has been welcomed and mentored by the class that started 50 years before them. For many members of the Classes of 1971, 1972, and 1973, this has been a fun way to reconnect with old friends and reminisce about their teenage selves while helping to continue the Servite tradition of brotherhood. I now invite you to continue this Pay It Forward program.

The first step in a Servite freshman's journey is Freshman Formation Weekend, a 3-day experience that introduces them to Servite through a series of activities and challenges. This year's event will be July 17-19 on the Servite campus. Volunteers are needed to be group leaders, speakers, or just guests who stop in to encourage the boys as they participate. The dates and the format of the weekend this year are subject to change depending on state and county restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also looking for 2 or 3 1974 alumni who may be willing to take on a leadership role in this effort by rallying classmates. 

A new tradition connected to the Pay It Forward program is the alumni donating Bibles to the freshmen. The Bibles are presented to new Friars during Freshman Formation Weekend and will include a bookplate recognizing the Class of 1974 as the donors. The Class of 2024 will use these bibles throughout their four years of theology classes and retreats at Servite and beyond.
