Order of Friar Servants of Mary

The Servite Order is a community of men who serve God’s people wherever they are called and as they are able, continue to serve the local church through parish and other pastoral ministries as well as their mission in Zululand, South Africa. They anchor their ministry through their historical commitment to:

Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, Chicago. This is the heart of the Servites in the United States and the birthplace of the historic Novena of Our Lady of Sorrows.

The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother – The Grotto. The Grotto offers liturgy, compassion, support and hope through a variety of ministries set in a peaceful retreat of 62 acres of gardens.

Servite High School, Anaheim CA. Our all-boys school is forming the next generation of leaders with knowledge, character, wisdom.

Assumption Parish, Chicago. Founded in 1881, Assumption Church serves a diverse community of neighborhood residents, downtown workers, visitors to the city, and people from all over the Chicago area.

The St. Peregrine Ministry of Compassion. Our brother, Servite friar, and Patron Saint of those suffering from cancer and other serious illness.

Mary at the Foot of the Cross Community

In 2006, ten people from the Servite staff community decided to pursue a calling to explore the Secular Order  Servants of Mary. They began the process of discerning what it means to give your life to Christ as men and women living in the world according to the Charism of the Servites. In  2007, five of the original ten made their promise to become Secular Servites. The name they chose for the secular community here at Servite is “Mary at the foot of the Cross.

The Foot of the Cross Community gathers alumni, faculty, parents and students as Catholic men and women, united by Christian Baptism.  The Holy Spirit directs us to serve Christ by drawing upon the inspiration and example of Mary at the foot of the cross of her son, Jesus Christ, in the Order of Servants of Mary.
