Wrestling has won the 2021 Trinity League Championship after finishing with a perfect 3-0 record in dual competition. The league victory is their second in the last three years after also winning the title in 2019.
The Fight'n Friars opened league competition with a 67-12 win over Mater Dei then followed up that performance with a 72-9 victory over Orange Lutheran. Wrestling third and final win came against St. John Bosco who was forced to forfeit due to COVID-19 protocols.
Against the Monarchs, the Friars won 12 of 14 matches with Nicolas Sanchez (120), Daniel Munoz (126), Noah Segura (145), Tyler Okada (152), Noah Gasca (170), Isaiah Gasca (195) and Mason Graham (HWT) all winning by fall. Domenic Lomedico (160) won his match by major decision while Ethan Grimminger (113) earned the victory by decision. Mater Dei also forfeited at 106, 132, 138.
Meanwhile, against the Lancers, all seven wrestled wins for Servite resulted in victories by fall with Anthony Lucio (113), Ethan Grimminger (120), Marcus Medina (138), Noah Segura (145), Tyler Okada (145), Domenic Lomedico (160) and Ben Florentine (220) earning pins. Orange Lutheran won at 126 and 132 then forfeited to the Friars at 106, 170, 182, 195 and HWT.
With regular season competition now complete, the Fight'n Friars finished with an 8-1 dual record with their only loss coming against Calvary Chapel in a tightly contest match, 36-38.
No Trinity League Individual Finals will be held due to COVID-19 so the team will turn their focus to CIF Dual Meet competition.
