The Fight'n Friars returned to the mats Wednesday to open the 2022-2023 season and defeated Corona Centennial 45-39 in a thrilling dual that came down to the final match. 

Julian Pera started the season with a pin at 197 to give Servite an early lead. After the Huskies tied the match winning by fall at 222, Luis Ramirez-Diarte once again put the Friars on top with a pin on his own. Servite forfeited at 108 and 115 then Centennial won by decision at 122 to take a 21-12 advantage through five matches. 

The 128lb match was disqualified moving the scoring to 27-18 Huskies with some work to do for the Friars. 

Calen Reyna (134) answered the call winning by fall to start a a four-match victory streak for Servite with Jacob Owen (140), Josh Valdez (147) and Lucas Reza (154) all securing points as the Friars retook the lead and jumped ahead 39-27. 

Centennial made it a match winning at both 162 and 172 to tie it up 39-39 headed into the final dual. 

Senior Tyler McCown was the hero for the Fight'n Friars as he earned the pin at 184 to secure the victory! 

Action continues next Tuesday night when the team welcomes Villa Park at 7pm.
