Senior Tanner McCreary has signed to play water polo at Pepperdine. The Friars’ goalkeeper shared, “The beautiful campus and location really drew me to Pepperdine at first. Then the opportunity to be coached by a 3-time Olympian and the Division 1 competitiveness of the program had me hooked.”
A four-year varsity letterman for the Friars, McCreary is a two-time All-Trinity League selection earning 1st Team All-League honors as a sophomore and 2nd Team accolades as a senior. He was also selected All-CIF in 2022 after helping lead the team to the CIF quarterfinals. Throughout his career, he has amassed over 500 saves including a career-high 238 as a senior.
In addition to water polo, McCreary also swims for Servite specializing in the 50 Free and 100 Breast while advancing to the CIF D1 Finals with the 200 Medley Relay team.
Head Coach Andy Coffman shared, “Tanner is a talented goalie and made some amazing plays in high school. He gave us energy and leadership throughout his career and truly loved being a Servite Friar. I am looking forward to what he will do at the next level playing at Pepperdine.”
Outside of sports, McCreary is also involved in the Priory Leadership Program and serves as the Surf Club president.
McCreary is the first water polo senior to announce his college commitment and follows in the footsteps of two former Servite greats, Adam Hewko ’03 and Luke Hewko ’11, in playing for the Waves.
In closing McCreary shared, “To my family and coaches, none of this would have been possible without each one of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you do for me. I love you guys!”
