Servite Athletics recognized 16 student-athletes from six sports Wednesday, May 1st during a ceremony held in the gym as commitments were made by students to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. Football led all sports with five participants followed by wrestling with four, volleyball with three and track and field with two while cross country and swim had one each.

Combining the three signing day’s held this year, the Class of 2019 will send 32 student-athletes to compete at 4-year universities next year.

Cross Country- 

Micah Navarro (Creighton University): A 3-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Navarro ran both cross country and track for Servite. During his senior cross country season he continuously turned in the fastest times on the team while also serving as the team captain. As for track, he ran the 800 and 1600 and was a member of the last three Trinity League Championship teams.

Football-

David Cooper (Chapman): A 3-sport athlete for the Friars, Cooper also wrestled and ran track at Servite. He will join Lucas Alberty ’18 at Chapman.

Samuel Duran (Cal Lutheran): A 2-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Duran played lineman for Servite his senior year.

Cade Fuller (Fresno State): A 3-year varsity letterman, Fuller was a member of the Curia his senior season and selected Punter of the Year for the Trinity League, 1st Team All-League and a senior all-star. Fuller also played soccer and ran track for Servite advancing to CIF Finals individually in the 400 and with the 4x400 relay track team.

Blaze McKibbin (Fresno State): McKibbin was the quarterback for the Friars his senior season, starting all 9 games for Servite. In total he tallied 1394 passing yards with five touchdowns. He will attend Fresno State with his teammate Cade Fuller and Servite alum Asa Fuller ’17.

Cade Rosenkranz (TCU): Rosenkranz returned to football for his senior season playing wide receiver for the Friars. He finished the year with the second most receptions on the team with 25 while tallying 285 yards.

Swim-

Christian Martinez (UC Santa Barbara): A 4-year varsity letterman for the Friars in swim, Martinez was also an accomplished water polo and basketball player for Servite earning All-League accolades in all three sports. In his senior season, he helped lead the water polo team to the CIF Division 3 Championship title then won individual Trinity League titles in the 50 Free and 100 Free setting school records in both events and a league record in the 50. He also placed in the top 3 in both events at CIF.  

Track and Field- 

Kyle Kimble (Cornell): Kimble has been an integral part of the Friars’ success the last three seasons helping the track and field team win back-to-back-back league titles. Individually he competes in the 110 and 300 hurdles winning Trinity League in the 110 hurdles his junior and senior season. He also advanced to CIF in both events both years.

Nathan Lacson (Saint Louis University): A hurdler like Kimble, Lacson has also contributed to the track team’s success throughout his Servite career advancing to CIF his junior year.

Volleyball-

Matthew Helmick (William Penn University): Helmick played three years in the Servite Volleyball program while also playing club for Pulse. He is headed to a new NAIA program in Iowa.

Gil Herold (Concordia University, Irvine): A 3-year starter for the Friars, Herold played middle blocker for Servite finishing his career with 279 and 184 blocks, third most in school history. He also helped lead Servite to a Trinity League title his senior season while also selected to play in the OC All-Star game. He will join his teammate, Christian Oviedo at Concordia in the fall.

Chris Morikawa (UC Merced): A 3-year starter for the Friars, Morikawa played opposite and set for Servite while helping lead the team to the 2019 Trinity League title. He did a little bit of everything for the Friars finishing with 625 kills, 169 blocks, 770 assists, 365 digs and 53 aces in his career while earning 1st Team All-league his junior season. He will also represent Servite in the OC All-Star game May 21st.

Wrestling-

Daniel Magaña (Colorado Mesa University): A 3-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Magaña is a 3-time CIF finalist, 1-time Trinity League champion and 2-time All-Orange county selection. He also qualified for state as a senior while helping lead the team to the best season in school history winning Trinity League, two CIF titles and Masters.

Marcos Magana (Colorado Mesa University): A 3-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Magaña won CIF at 126lbs his senior season while advancing to state. He was also awarded All-Orange County while being selected to participate in the ORCA all-star duals.

Teddy Okada (San Francisco State): A 4-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Okada is a 2-time Trinity League champion, 1-time CIF Champion, 1-time state placer and 1-time nationals placer earning All-American recognition his senior season. He also holds the school record for most takedowns in a season with 235.

Andrew Silva (Vanguard University): A 3-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Silva won Trinity League and CIF during his Servite career while qualifying for state his junior and senior seasons.
