Coaches

Jon Spencer Varsity Head Coach

Since taking over the Servite Soccer program in 2012, Coach Jon Spencer has led the Friars to five consecutive Trinity League titles, the school’s first ever CIF-SS Division 1 Championship and two regional bids. Overall Servite has gone 109-23-26 and 45-6-9 in league play with Coach Spencer earning his 100th career win in the 2017-18 season. The Friars have had ten league MVPs or Co-MVPs in that time including 45 All-league selections while 29 graduates over the past six years have gone on to play at the collegiate ranks.

Following the 2015 season Coach Spencer was named Orange County Register Coach of the Year and CIF-SS Coach of the Year.

Coach Spencer has a rich background in soccer. He grew up in Palmdale, California and attended UC Irvine where he studied History and Political Science and was a midfielder and the Captain on the men’s soccer team. Through college he coached at University High School in Irvine, placing a passion for coaching within him.

Coach Spencer started his professional career by spending a season with the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS, followed by a season playing with the Orange County Blue Star. Coach Spencer then moved to Europe to play for VfR Mannheim and SV Weil am Rhein. After several years as a professional player he was recruited to scout for professional clubs in Europe and to recruit top high school players across the United States. Coach Spencer is the first scout to send an American high school graduate directly to a first team in Europe. That player, Joshua Gatt, just made his U.S. Men’s National Team debut in 2012. Most recently Coach Spencer was the General Manager and Head Coach for the Orange County Blue Star. He also served as the Technical Director of Soccer for Advanced Soccer Media and TopDrawerSoccer.com. During his time as a coach and scout he has mentored the NCAA Div 1 Freshman Player of the Year twice (Soony Saad, Michigan, 2010; Mikey Lopez, UNC, 2011), multiple MLS First Round Draft Picks and US Youth National Team Players. Coach Spencer holds a USSF Class “A” soccer national coaching license.

Coach Spencer’s passion for coaching led him to Servite. He is an advocate of formation and is committed to the goals of this hallmark program of Servite High School. Coach Spencer stresses more than just winning to the young Friars. He motivates them to be better individuals as well as better athletes. Coach Spencer has recently taken on a larger role at Servite moving into the position of Admissions Director.

Coach Spencer also brings his wife Heather and sons Luke and Joshua into the Servite family. She is an accomplished soccer player in her own right, playing in college for UC Irvine. They currently live in Santa Ana and besides soccer, enjoy all sports, love traveling, and spending time with their Church family.

Bob Oseguera –Associate Head Coach

Coach Oseguera has been coaching soccer for more than 30 years at Bell Gardens High School, Santa Fe High School, East LA College, Rio Hondo College, Golden West College and Cal Poly Pomona. His Bell Gardens teams, boys and girls, have earned many successes, and he served as the Head Coach for the girls’ soccer team. Additionally he has coached at many club teams including NHB, FCBayern, Pateadores, West Coast FC, OC Blues and PSA Elite! During his time at Rio Hondo (02-10) they captured nine conference titles. He also assisted many students-athletes in earning All-American selections and All-Far West Selections. He currently serves on the coaching staff at Golden West Community College and Hope International, helping place players at four-year universities. Coach Oseguera has also coached Professional Development League teams with Coach Spencer including the PSA Elite in their historic run in the US Open Cup eventually losing in the 4th Round to the LA Galaxy. This is his seventh year coaching at Servite.

Jimmy Turner- Varsity Assistant

David Diaz- Varsity Assistant / GK Coach

A native of Whittier, CA, Diaz played for various clubs in Southern California during his youth career, before joining the Seahorses PDL team of Orange County. He attended Sonora High School and was a member of the Varsity Soccer team for four years and captained the 2005 squad that won the conference championship and was a CIF SS Finalist. He went on to play for San Diego State University for one season before transferring to Rio Hondo College and eventually Whittier College. At Rio Hondo he captained a league Championship team that earned a No. 1 state ranking among Jr. Colleges. At Whittier, he was a three-year starter and helped lead his team to three consecutive SCIAC post-season tournaments. Diaz graduated from Whittier College with a Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology and Nutritional Sciences. Since graduation, Diaz has been coaching at the youth, high school and college level with various programs. He spent 4 seasons at Whittier College serving as an Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach for the men’s team. He also spent time working with goalkeepers at El Dorado High School (2013-2015) and Brea Olinda High School (2014-2015). Diaz has also been coaching at AC Brea since 2013 as a head coach, and has recently become the Age group Coordinator for their 2006 and 2005 boy’s teams.

Ray Estrada- JV Head Coach

Coach Estrada is in his second season with the Friars and will serve the Soccer program as the JV Head Coach. Estrada was a 4-year Varsity letterman at Segerstrom before being recruited to play at UC Irvine. After two seasons with the Anteaters, Estrada transferred to Concordia University Irvine were he was a team captain and a two-time 1st Team All-Conference selection. Since graduating, he has played in the PDL with the So Cal Seahorses while also coaching at Newport Harbor and serving as a grad assistant at Concordia.

Victor Vasquez- JV Assistant Coach

Coach Vasquez is in his third season coaching with the Friars after playing three years at Cal State University, Northridge. During his time with the Matadores, he appeared in 58 matches, including all 19 his senior season, playing midfield and defense. Coach Vasquez graduated from Cypress High School in 2011 where he was a 3-year Varsity letterman helping the Centurions win an Empire League title his senior season.

Rafael Ramirez Sr.- Frosh Head Coach

Coach Ramirez Sr. currently serves on the coaching staff at the CDA Slammers. He has served as Head Soccer Varsity Coach at Westminster High School. Coach Rafa has coached many club teams including Pateadores HB Impact and PSA Elite. He works at various soccer clinics across Southern California including UC Irvine and Golden West. This is his seventh year coaching at Servite.

Eddie Huber ‘12- Frosh Black Head Coach

Coach Huber graduated from Servite in 2012 before going on to play collegiately at Franciscan University for the Barons while studying Psychology and Theology. During his collegiate career he played 39 games, starting 26 while tallying 234 saves. After graduation Huber returned to Servite where he is currently assisting the Campus Ministry department while teaching four sophomores theology classes.

Jonathan Pham '15- Frosh Assistant Coach

Coach Pham graduated from Servite in 2015 and was a starter on the Friars 2014-15 squad that won Trinity League and Servite Soccer's 1st ever CIF-SS Division 1 Championship. They also set a school record for most wins in a single season with 27. During that time, Pham played club with Strikers FC where he traveled to play tournaments in Denmark and Sweden, leading the team as a captain. After graduating, Pham went on to play his freshman year at the University of La Verne where he is currently a senior studying Biology.

Alex Piñoń ’17- Frosh Assistant Coach

Coach Piñoń graduated from Servite in 2017 and was a two-year varsity letterman for the Friars helping lead the team to Trintiy League titles his junior and senior seasons. Following graduation he began his collegiate playing career at Golden West College where he has played the last two years. Piñoń played in 22 games for the Rustlers his sophomore season while starting 18 as Golden West advanced to the CCCAA State Championship Game.

Youth Summer Camp

SOCCER SUMMER CAMP

Dates, Times, Ages:
Session 1: June 17-20, 8am-11am (1st-8th grades, co-ed)
Session 2: June 24-27, 8am-11am (1st-8th grades, co-ed)
Session 3: June 24-27, 4pm-7pm (4th-8th grades, co-ed)
Session 4 Intensive: July 1-3, 8am-10am (7th-8th grades, co-ed)

Cost:
$165 for 1 session
$290 for 2 sessions
$415 for 3 sessions

The purpose of the Youth Soccer Camp is to introduce youth to the game and to improve the skills of those who are already playing. The camp is run by Head Soccer Coach Jon Spencer and his coaching staff as well as current Servite players and recent alumni. Participants are encouraged to wear athletic attire and cleats and bring their own water bottle. A camp t-shirt will be provided. The camp will be held on Courage Field at Servite.
