Dane Jako- Head Golf Coach

Coach Jako has been teaching Physical Education at Servite for nearly 30 years and the 2024 season marks his 25th year as head coach of the golf program. During his tenure, Jako has been named Coach of the Year eight times by various organizations.

The Varsity golf team continues to be among the top teams in both the CIF-SS and Orange County winning six consecutive Trinity League titles from 2014-2019 and nine total in the last 12 seasons. They have also won three of the last four CIF-SS Championships. In 2021 the Friars added a SCGA Championship, winning the title for the first time in school history. Over the last seven seasons, the Friars have posted an 124-5 record with three undefeated seasons.

Servite alum, Patrick Cantlay '10 made a triumphant return to the PGA Tour winning his first title in 2017 taking home the Shriners Cup in November and has since won three additional championships including two in 2021. Coach Jako has caddied for Patrick on several occasions including the US Amateur Open tournament where Patrick made it to the semifinal in 2010 and the finals in 2011.

Coach Jako also has eight Friar alumni currently playing at the collegiate level with two seniors from the Class of 2021 committed to play college golf.

Under Coach Jako’s guidance, the golf program has tripled in size and Servite has become one of the largest programs in all of California and regularly ranked in the top 10 in Orange County. Servite hosts one of the best high school golf tournaments in Southern California. The Servite Invitational was Coach Jako’s vision and he has now hosted this top-notch event for the past 12 seasons, of which Servite has won 10.

The 2017 season marked the inaugural year for the Chris Roth Memorial Tournament, created in honor of Christopher Roth '10 who was passed away in February of 2016. Roth was a member of the Friars 2009 CIF Championship team and a close friend to and caddy for Patrick Cantlay.

Coach Jako is a graduate of Artesia High School where he played football, baseball and track. Coach Jako has a bachelor’s degree in physical education and exercise physiology from Upper Iowa University (UIU) where he also played football and baseball. He was an All-American wide receiver in football and an all-conference center fielder in baseball. Coach Jako went on to play three years of football in the USFL before returning to UIU to begin his coaching career. He is married to his lovely wife, Eva, and they have two boys, Nick '21 and Beau '24, who keep them very busy.
