Head Coach - Tony Davis 

The 2024-2025 year marks the third season for Coach Davis at the helm of the Servite basketball program. 

Coach Davis has over 15 years of high school coaching experience to the Friars and a championship pedigree having won two CIF-SS titles and 12 league championships during his tenure at Mayfair High School in Lakewood. Since taking over the program in 2007, Davis has been named CIF Coach of the Year twice while accumulating more than 300 victories including eight 20-win seasons with a 72% win percentage. In addition, he led his teams to the second round of the playoffs or further 13 times with six appearances in the quarterfinals and three in the finals. He also made four state appearances, advancing to the semifinals twice. 

Davis has mentored 30+ players who have moved on to play at 4-year universities including 15 at the NCAA Division 1 level. He also coached 1st Round NBA Draft pick and current Utah Jazz, Josh Christopher, as well as four McDonald’s All-American Game nominees, two Maxpreps All-Americans, three John R. Wooden Award recipients, two Naismith All-Americans and three players ranked in ESPN’s Top 100. 

As an athlete himself, Davis was a three-year starter at point guard at Whittier College where he earned his BA in Business Administration before going on to earn his MA in Education with a credential in Physical Education from National University. 

Coach Davis brings his wife Rosalyn, daughter Naomi and son Joshua into the Friar family.

Brandon Davis- Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Brandon Davis is in second year with the Servite staff. Coach Davis has over 15 years of coaching experience. He was the lead assistant with Mayfair High School when they won a CIF title in 2012. Coach Davis played and graduated from North Torrance and then briefly played at LA Harbor junior college. He is extremely passionate about player development and inspiring student-athletes to work hard to become the best version of themselves on and off the court. Coach Davis has also been a Varsity basketball official for 15 years with dual membership in the CIF LA City Section and the CIF Southern Section-South bay units of the CBOA. Coach Davis also works out of the Library on the Servite campus as a paraeducator. 

Chris Higgins - Varsity Assistant Coach 

Chris Higgins joined the staff after 15 years of coaching at Mayfair High School. In his time at Mayfair, he was a lower level Head Coach for 7 years and a Varsity Assistant his last 8 years. During his time at Mayfair, he helped the program win 2 CIF titles, along with 12 League titles. In addition to coaching at Servite, he is the Associate Dean of Students on campus. Coach Higgins recently exchanged wedding vows with his wife Emily this past summer. 

James Wright- Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach James Wright is in first year with the Servite staff. This is Coach Wright’s first foray into coaching, as he has been a highly regarded skill development coach over the last handful of years. During his time as a skills coach, Coach Wright was able to work with multiple NBA and Division 1 players. Prior to his jump into the coaching and development side of the game, he won the LA City Section Player of the Year Award and  the John Wooden Award as a high school senior at Manual Arts. He then played at the University of Colorado. Afterwards he went on to play professionally for over 10 years in the G-League and numerous countries overseas. 

He is currently finishing up his studies in Sociology and will be graduating this Spring from the University of Colorado. He is married to Leandra and has two sons, Jovanni and James Jr. 

Zach Wilhelm ‘10- Varsity Assistant/Basketball Operations 

Coach Zach Wilhelm, a 2010 graduate of Servite, has joined the basketball staff. While a student at Servite, Zach competed as a member of the Varsity team for two years. After graduation, he joined the practice squad at the University of San Francisco and helped the Men’s program prepare for WCC competition. Zach is currently getting his Masters in Sports Management at the University of San Francisco.  Coach Zach enjoys spending time surfing and playing sports with his son Ben.

JC Ellis- JV Black Head Coach/ Head of Lower Levels 

JC Ellis is in his fourth year with the Servite Friars, and moves into a new role as the JV Black Head Coach, along with overseeing the lower level teams. He spent the previous 10 years coaching at his alma mater, Covina High school where he helped win five league championships. In addition to his role with the team, he also works as a substitute teacher on campus. 

Steven Tillman- JV White Coach

Steven Tillman has been coaching for over 10 years. This will be his 5th year coaching for the Servite basketball program. Coach Tillman graduated from Gahr Richard High School where he played basketball and football. He went on to coach for the city of Lakewood sports, and Ross Academy. He has a passion for the game and is looking forward to helping mentor student athletes any way he can. Steven and his wife Shanita have two daughters and a son.

Lee Yamauchi- Freshman White Coach 

This is Lee Yamauchi’s 8th year in coaching for Servite High School. He comes with four years of experience in coaching high school level organized basketball. Coach Yamauchi has been part of the Servite Family before as his son Ryan graduated from Servite High School in 2012. He looks forward to helping young men in learning on and off the court.

Bob Flynn '78- Freshman White Coach

Bob is a graduate of Servite and played basketball (not very well) all four years. He has coached for over 25 years at various levels of competition. Bob primarily works with the “big guys” emphasizing teamwork, fundamentals and the mental aspect of the game. Bob hopes to instill in each student athlete a passion for the game and a strong team -oriented work ethic. He has been married to his wonderful wife Jamie for over 30 years and raised three sons all of whom are Servite graduates.

Daniel Bereal- Freshman Black Head Coach

Coach Bereal joins the Servite staff after two seasons of coaching at NCAA Division II Holy Names University. Over the past few years he started Real Deal Development and has become a well respected skill development coach, working with high school, college and overseas professional basketball players. Coach Bereal played for Coach Davis for two seasons at Mayfair High School. After high school, Bereal graduated from Cal State East Bay with a Communications degree and also graduated from Holy Names with a Masters in Management and Leadership.
