Roman Martin '23 and the USA Baseball 18U team won gold in Mexico this week at the WBSC Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier. The team put together a dominant performance going 8-0 overall while defeating Panama in the title game 11-1. Individually, Martin went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI, run scored and stolen base in the championship game.

This accolade adds to the already extraordinary resume of the Friars' senior shortstop. The UCLA commit earned Trinity League Rookie of the Year honors his sophomore year followed by Trinity League MVP recognition as a junior. Recently, he was also selected to participate in the Perfect Game All-American Classic and the USA Baseball All-American Game held at Dodgers Stadium as part of MLB All-Star Week. Martin is currently the No. 1 ranked player in California according to PBR.

Throughout his career at Servite, he has hit .384 overall and an impressive .462 in league play while tallying 41 RBIs, 39 runs scored, 39 walks and 65 hits, including 19 for extra bases.

The Friars will open their spring season on February 11th when they compete in the PBR Tournament held at Great Park.
