After 12 years leading the baseball program, Head Coach Shawn Gilbert has announced he is resigning effective August 1. During his tenure, he amassed over 175 career wins and made seven postseason appearances, including a Quarterfinals berth in 2025. He coached 85+ players who have moved on to compete collegiately, and had five alumni selected in the MLB Draft, including Roman Martin ‘23 and Mikiah Negrete ‘22 in 2026.

Coach Gilbert shared, "I want to thank Servite for taking a chance on me back in 2015, trusting me to lead this program, and allowing me to do what I love. I am deeply grateful to every coach, player, and family who has been part of this journey. It has been an honor to work alongside these young men, to watch them grow, and to share in so many unforgettable moments together. It is with a heavy heart that I step away from this role, but I do so wanting nothing but the very best for the future of Servite Baseball. I truly believe God placed me here for a reason, and being able to share my faith, pray with our players, and be part of their formation is a responsibility I have never taken lightly. I don't always have the right words to express my gratitude, but please know how thankful I am for the trust, support, and relationships that have meant so much to me. Servite will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will forever be grateful for my time here."

Prior to his coaching career, which also included stints at Long Beach State and Fresno Pacific, Gilbert played professionally for 17 years, including three in the major leagues with the New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Athletic Director Matt Marrujo ‘07 shared, “On behalf of the leadership team, I would like to thank Coach Gilbert for his years of sacrifice and dedication to the baseball program. He has worked tirelessly to grow the program and has made a positive impact on his players, not just as student-athletes but also as faith-filled young men.”

“Since his first season, Coach Gilbert has continued to encourage excellence on and off the field,” Marrujo said. “He was a dedicated colleague and coach, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
