Senior Steven Rubly has committed to play water polo at Chapman University. The Friars’ captain shared, “I picked Chapman University because of its small class sizes, location, and overall environment. I was specifically attracted to the water polo program because the team is a young group with a lot of potential. I believe that my play style will complement them well and I am excited for the opportunity to compete.”

A four-year varsity letterman and starter for the Friars, Rubly is a two-time All-Trinity League selection earning 1st Team All-League recognition as a junior and 2nd Team accolades his senior season. He was also selected All-CIF in both 2021 and 2022 while adding All-Orange County after his junior campaign.

An offensive threat since his freshman year, Rubly led the Friars in goals scored in both his junior (82) and senior (73) seasons while tallying nearly 200 goals throughout his career. He also added 63 assists and 78 steals to his already impressive stat line. As a team, Servite finished as CIF-SS D2 semifinalists in 2021 and D1 quarterfinalists in 2022.

Besides water polo, Rubly also swims for Servite competing in the 100 Fly and 100 Breast.

Coach Andy Coffman shared, “Steven Rubly is a true man of Servite. It was a pleasure to coach Steven and build a relationship with him that I will always cherish. Steven was an invaluable part of our team and will be a huge asset to Chapman Water Polo. I am looking forward to what he does at the next level.”

Rubly, who plans to study Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance at Chapman, is a Servite scholar-athlete and a Principal's High Honor Roll with Distinction recipient.

In addition to being a two-sport athlete, Rubly is also involved with the Admissions Ambassador Program at Servite while serving as the Vice President of both CSF and the Surf Club.

Rubly is the second senior water polo player to announce his commitment joining goalkeeper Tanner McCreary who is headed to Pepperdine.

In closing Rubly shared, “I'd like to thank my parents for all the sacrifices they have made for me in order to attend Servite and participate in athletics. To my coaches, thank you for guiding me through this process and helping me develop into the best athlete possible.”
