Servite Soccer has won their 8th consecutive Trinity League title in dramatic fashion after finishing league play 9-1 while outscoring opponents 28-8 with four shutouts! The championship is the first under new head coach Eddie Soto.

Heading into the final two games of league play the Friars were in a must-win situation after dropping a game early on in league competition.

The first test came against JSerra who took a 1-0 lead into the final third of the game while setting their sights on a title of their own. However, Servite didn't back down scoring in the 68th minute to tie it then again in the 78th to win it.

First, junior Eduardo Villeda scored on a free kick from about 40 yards out to even the game 1-1 before senior Jesus Melgoza scored off a throw-in from fellow senior captain Joey Lutfi to give the Friars a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over JSerra, and ensure at least a share of the league title headed into their final game against Santa Margarita.

Servite left little doubt that they wanted the title all to themselves as they went on to defeat the Eagles 4-1 on Senior Night behind a career-high, four-goal effort from Melgoza.

The CIF-SS playoffs begin May 11.
