Servite’s own Dean of Academics Rory Bevins ’05, Math Teacher Avery De La Cruz, and Math Department Chair Jeff Blado ’02 teamed up for the Cal Tri Newport Dunes relay race.
Rory tackled the swim, Avery took on the biking leg, and Jeff finished strong with the 5K run. The trio, who competed in their first triathlon event, found the experience both challenging and rewarding.
They were also joined by some familiar faces, including Logan Vaughan, one of Avery’s Algebra 1 students, who competed with friends in a separate relay team.
The event provided an opportunity for Servite faculty to connect outside the classroom, emphasizing the values of commitment and lifelong learning.
The triathlon consisted of a 400-yard swim, an 8.2-mile bike ride, and a 5K run. This active group won’t be slowing down anytime soon: Avery, who is between marathon training cycles, and Jeff are already planning to run a 10K on Thanksgiving Day. The hope is that Rory will join them.
