Servite High School is excited to announce the return of rugby and welcome Ricky Lang as Head Coach. The Friars previously fielded teams from 2015-2020 before taking a couple seasons off due to COVID-19. In 2020, the team finished as Orange County League Champions and advanced to the finals of the So Cal Youth Rugby Championships.

Athletic Director Matt Marrujo shared, "We look forward to once again fielding a rugby team and having Coach Lang at the helm of the program. In his short time at Servite, Coach Lang has displayed enthusiasm and a commitment to our mission of forming faith-filled leaders. As a former collegiate rugby player, he is excited to share his love and passion for the sport with our student-athletes and the community. I could not be more excited about the future of rugby at Servite under Coach Lang's leadership."

Coach Lang played five years of Division 1 (NCRC) rugby at Eastern Washington University from 2009-2014 competing in both 15’s and 7’s. He was a two-time all-conference selection and team captain playing wing, inside/outside centre, and scrumhalf. After his playing career, he coached at Occidental College from 2018-2020 assisting the program with team and skill development while helping lead the squad to a 3rd place finish at the Small College National Championships.

Coach Lang shared, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to share rugby with the Servite community. It’s a physical game that teaches players teamwork, creativity, mental toughness and respect for both the game and their opponents.”

In addition to rugby, Coach Lang serves the football team as the Defensive Coordinator and teaches PE and Health on campus.
