After 17 years at the helm of the volleyball program, Head Coach Matt Marrujo ‘07 has announced he is stepping down to focus on his role as Director of Athletics. Longtime Servite assistant coach Paka Dutro will move into the head coach position beginning with the 2026-2027 season.

A former Servite volleyball player himself, Marrujo served as the head coach from 2010 to 2026, winning Trinity League titles in 2012, 2015, and 2019. He led the Friars to the postseason 14 times, advancing to the CIF Semifinals in 2012, 2021, and 2024, with a CIF Finals berth in 2022. In 2026, he earned his 300th career win as the team advanced to the CIF Quarterfinals. During his tenure, over 30 alumni have moved on to play volleyball collegiately, with six earning All-American honors. In addition to coaching, Marrujo has served on the CIF D1 Advisory Committee and the AVCA All-American Selection Committee.

Coach Marrujo shared, “Being the head volleyball coach at Servite has been one of my greatest honors, and it would not have been possible without the incredibly positive support from parents and students who trust the process and believe in our mission. This decision doesn’t come easily, but I know the future is bright under Coach Dutro’s guidance. He loves and cares for each student in the program, and is one of the best volleyball coaches in Southern California.”

Coach Dutro first joined the Friars’ staff in 2019 and has assisted the program in a variety of ways since, serving as the Director of Player Development, a varsity assistant, and the freshman head coach. He brings a wealth of experience to the program, having worked with high school, club, and college teams and served as a club director.

Coach Dutro shared, “I am extremely excited to move into this new role and embrace the journey ahead. Servite is a special place, and I look forward to carrying on the tradition and legacy that past Friar teams have built. I am humbled to be entrusted with this program and thankful to Coach Marrujo for his leadership and friendship.”

Prior to moving to California, Coach Dutro was born and raised in Hawaii and played basketball and volleyball at Kaimuki High School. He then attended Santa Monica College before starting his coaching career. Past coaching roles have included St. John Bosco, Long Beach City College, and Vanguard University, where he won a National Championship in 2023. In addition to Servite, he currently coaches 17's at Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and runs OC Athletics Lab.
