Senior Joe Moyer has committed to play soccer at Stanford University. The Friars' forward shared, "My eyes have been set on attending Stanford for years now because of the school’s strong academic reputation and the opportunities it will provide for personal and intellectual growth. Coach Gunn has a history of success with the team and I believe I will respond well to his goal-orientated coaching style. The chance to compete at a high level while receiving a top-notch education made Stanford the perfect fit for me."
A three-year varsity letterman, Moyer is a 2x All-Trinity League selection for the Friars earning 1st Team honors as a junior and 2nd Team recognition his sophomore year. To date, he has played in 45 games tallying 14 goals and seven assists, including five game winners. In addition to his individual accolades, Moyer has helped lead the team to two Trinity League titles as well as a CIF-SS D1 Championship and the school's first ever CIF State Championship.
Head Coach Eddie Soto said, "Joe has demonstrated both on and off the field he’s Stanford material. As a freshman playing varsity, his ability to be composed in big moments of a game showed week in and week out." He went on to say, "Joe’s will to win as well as to compete is on display every match but none moreso than last year when he played injured nearly the entire second half of the season. Joe will be greatly missed but we are very proud of his contribution and the leadership he has demonstrated during his time as a Friar."
Moyer, who plans to study business, is the first Friar soccer player on record to go on to play for Stanford but joins a long list of alumni to compete collegiately.
In closing Moyer added, "I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to my Strikers FC coaches, Don, Roy, and Willie, who have played an instrumental role in my journey. Your unwavering passion, guidance, and relentless support have been transformative, empowering me to push past my own barriers. Coach Soto, I am sincerely thankful for your belief in me and the constant motivation to strive for new heights. To my incredible family and friends, I cannot thank you enough. Mom, your endless love, support, and encouragement have been my rock. Dad, thank you for your guidance, wisdom, and the countless sacrifices you have made for me. Your unwavering belief in my abilities are much appreciated. Thank you for being my biggest fan and always pushing me to be the best version of myself. I would not be where I am today without you guys."
Moyer will be recognized for his accomplishments during a signing day ceremony held Wednesday, November 8 at Servite at 8:45am.
