Servite High School is excited to announce the hiring of Ibee Atalla as head wrestling coach. Coach Atalla will fill the opening left following Coach Alan Clinton’s decision to step down and move into a consultative role.
Athletic Director Matt Marrujo shared, “We are excited to announce Coach Atalla as our next head wrestling coach. Throughout our process, he showed a deep commitment to education-based athletics and a strong alignment with our mission of forming faith-filled leaders. Coach Atalla is an accomplished head coach who brings a wealth of experience, a passion for the sport, and a focus on athlete development. Under his leadership, I am confident that our program will continue to be one of the best in Southern California.”
Coach Atalla brings over 10 years of head coaching experience to the Friars and a championship mindset, having won five CIF-SS team titles and 12 league championships during his tenure at Mayfair High School in Lakewood. Since taking over the Monsoons in 2012 and building both the boys’ and girls’ programs to regional prominence, his male wrestlers have won over 100 individual league championships, eight CIF-SS Individual titles and two Masters Championships. In addition, he has had multiple student-athletes earn All-American status and sent wrestlers to the next level to compete at Cal State Bakersfield, San Francisco State, Missouri Valley and most recently, California Baptist University.
Coach Atalla said, “I am extremely honored to have been chosen by the Servite leadership to lead the wrestling program. The opportunity to continue to build on the great Coach Clinton’s legacy is exciting, and I look forward to developing the next generation of faith-filled leaders. I’m ready to get to work as we strive for excellence both on and off the mat.”
Off the mat, Coach Atalla has served on the CIF-SS Wrestling Advisory Committee with Coach Clinton since 2018 and was inducted into the Lakewood Youth Hall of Fame in 2023. He is a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving three combat tours, earning 13 awards, highest award being the Navy Achievement Medal with a combat “V”.
Former Coach Alan Clinton added, “I want to express how excited I am for what lies ahead under Coach Ibee’s leadership. I’ve had the privilege of building our Fight’n Friar program over the last 19 years, but the foundation we’ve laid is only the beginning. I have the utmost confidence in what is to come and look forward to continuing to support our wrestlers and this program in any way I can as we carry on the legacy of Servite Wrestling and reach new heights."
Servite High School would like to welcome Coach Atalla, his wife Paola and children to the Friar family.
