After winning the 2020 CIF-SS Division 1 Championship, four student-athletes along with Coach Jon Spencer were recognized with awards from CIF.
Coach Spencer was named CIF Coach of the Year for the second time in his career while senior David Mitzner was selected CIF Player of the Year. In addition, junior Jesus Melgoza and fellow seniors Xavier Pineda and Uriel Sanchez were all honored with All-CIF recognition.
All four Friars were key contributors to Servite's success during their playoff run.
Mitzner earned OC Varsity Player of the Week honors following the Friars' semifinal victory over Cathedral after he made eight saves in goal during regulation and three during penalty kicks. He also added seven saves in the finals.
Melgoza was the top offensive threat for Servite tallying three goals and two assists in five games scoring the game-winner against Aliso Niguel.
Xavier Pineda captained the team this season and served as an anchor on the Friars' back line and a defensive staple for Servite.
Uriel Sanchez earned All-CIF recognition for the second time in his career scoring the game-winning penalty kick against Cathedral and the first goal in the championship game against Loyola.
Congratulations to Coach Spencer and the entire team!
