Dear Brothers:
I wanted to drop you a line and thank you for all you have done over the last couple years as our beloved alma mater has enjoyed a rejuvenating and wonderful re-emergence to the top. It is a continuing journey of improvement and innovation with the “eyes on the prize” of excellence. More so than ever over the past year, I have come to appreciate the Friar Brotherhood and all that it means. And that is why I address you as such. My brothers.
The current administration and the Alumni Association Board are being very proactive in attempts to foster relationships with the greater alumni community. Whether you graduated one year ago or thirty years ago, it is important for the school and our brotherhood to keep you close to the family because that is our greatest strength and asset. When I was a student at Servite, I didn't look or see behind the scenes to recognize all the people that made a great school like Servite really excel like it did. The boosters, the alumni, the parents and extended family, the teachers and administration. Everybody did their part in support of the school so that the students could enjoy the absolute best education money could buy. And now that magic is back.
Through contributions from every group, Servite is now the best high school in Orange County. I really believe that, and think that the young men who are formed and graduate from there are the finest in the history of the school. And we, as the Alumni Association, are playing a vital role in that. For this I am proud and I beam with happiness when I talk to these kids and see all the wonderful things they are achieving. It is a great time to be a Friar -- past, present or future. And it's going to get better.
I want you to get in touch with the school. Give something back to the place that helped make you who and what you are… And giving back does not always equal a financial contribution. Call up Frank Talarico ’88. Go see Pete Bowen ’82 and Jim Carter ’82. Go to the website and see what's going on. Go to a game, a play, or speak at Career Day.
Your support on campus means the world to our current students. It shows how important Servite remains and how our brotherhood lives on even after you graduate.
As we approach the 50th Anniversary, I look forward to many opportunities to remain engaged. On January 19, Servite will hold its annual Friar Feast. This year's theme is Friar Feast Flashback. What a great way to reminisce with old friends while enjoying a casual atmosphere of food and fun. Admission is free and you have the option of reserving a cocktail table for $50 or a table of ten for $100 (only $10 per person). Not a whole lot when you know that all the proceeds fo directly back to the clubs and teams that participate in this "Taste of Servite."
On April 12, 2008 Servite will hold its annual athletic fundraiser, the Ace of Spades. This casino night is like no other, with delicious dining, exciting casino games, exceptional auctions, raffles, dancing and much more.
Servite is a wonderful thing to be a part of, and your contribution (great or small, limited or extensive) is not only appreciated, but actively sought out and desired. It is invaluable. Servite continues to move forward and your invlovement is an important foundation to our community. It is with passion and belief that I ask you to please participate in this year's Annual Fund. Any amount you give will be appreciated and I assure you, will go to a great cause. Please contact me or the Alumni Office if you have any questions about how to donate.
If you are interested in joining the Alumni Association Board, drop me a line and let me know. This big, black locomotive is going a hundred miles an hour forward, my brothers. And it's gaining momentum by the minute. Jump on board for the ride. YOU, me and our fellow alums are the fuel.
Credo,
Ted Lawton, ’86
President, Servite Alumni Association
