During the recent L.A. Fleet Week event, a festival over Labor Day weekend honoring the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard at the Port of Los Angeles, five FIRST Robotics competition teams, under the direction of the Friarbots from Servite High School, participated in promoting STEM to the youth and an estimated 170,000 attendees.

At the expo the five teams from Southern California all demonstrated their robots' capabilities in mock competitions. Servite scrimmaged with robots from other local teams. Attendees were able to participate in demonstrations by feeding fuel balls and gears to the robots. On Monday, the teams set up a mock tournament field in front of the USS Iowa and showed the crowds what their robots could do.

"The Fleet Week Event was an opportunity for high school students to give kids the chance to watch balls be launched in the air, see robots cruise around and meet the engineers of the next generation," said Jon Logrippo, VP of Public Relations for Servite Friarbots.
