Honors Program
Servite High School is known for its rigorous academic requirements, including 70 hours of Christian Service during your son's four years here. The faculty and staff of Servite are constantly striving to provide our students with a solid academic foundation that will fully prepare them for colleges and universities like Notre Dame, Princeton, UCLA, and Columbia.
Honors and AP Placement
Beyond the College Preparatory (CP) coursework offered, students may also qualify for the Honors Placement (HP) and Advanced Placement (AP) tracks. Advanced Placement courses are designed to provide accelerated students with the opportunity to receive advanced standing at the time of college entrance in a particular subject area. Course content is designed to prepare students to take the College Board Advanced Placement Examination in each area of study. AP courses are offered in American History, Modern European History, World History, American Government, Macro/Micro Economics, English, Biology, Computer Science, Calculus, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, Latin, Spanish, and Art History. HP course content is essentially the same as in the CP classes. Honors sections, however, are conducted at an accelerated pace and with greater intellectual intensity and depth, and are traditionally more competitive. Honors courses are offered in English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Laboratory Science, Computer Science, History, Fine Arts, and Theology. CP courses are designed to be a challenge to the student preparing for a college education. Material covered in these courses is presented in a detailed fashion at a pace designed for all students.
Freshman Honors Placement
Freshman students are designated for the Freshman Honors Track based on the results of their Placement Examination, their seventh and eighth grade academic record, and teacher recommendations. If your son is admitted to the Honors Track, he will be required to take English Literature, Foreign Language I, Biology, Mathematics, Ancient History, Theology I, Physical Education, and Health and Driver Education. Students in the Honors track take a zero period class during freshman year. A partial Honors Track is offered for students who excel in Science and Math.
