Message from Fine Arts Chair
Servite's fourth ‘A' (ARTS) is represented by our fine arts department. The school is proud to support a vibrant and deep fine arts program. A supportive administration, and enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructors are vital to the department's success.
Students may participate in the extra-curricular, award winning Tri-School Theatre Theatre on Purpose program offered in conjunction with students from Cornelia Connelly and Rosary High Schools. Since 1988 it has distinguished itself as a foremost theatre training program throughout Orange and Riverside counties. Classes are offered after school in acting, musical theatre, technical theatre, playwriting, directing, and dance. Each production season includes a drama and a musical with both produced in the fully equipped Servite Theatre. Besides forming the performing group on stage students serve behind the scenes in all crew positions.
Another extra-curricular program that incorporates Servite, Rosary, and Connelly students is the Mighty Friar Band. This wind band performs for the football games as a marching band in the fall and concentrates on concert music in the spring. The band also participates in Servite functions, providing music for such events as the yearly fashion show.
Servite also offers fine arts classes for credit during the school day as electives. Among the areas addressed are drama, music, and visual arts.
Visual arts are represented by both CP and AP Art History courses. Further, award winning, comprehensive CP drawing and CP painting classes are offered on the beginning and advanced level. In addition to teaching studio skills, art criticism techniques, and aesthetic theory, art history is also taught in these classes. Studio work is submitted to a variety of community art competitions.
Music is represented by CP Band, CP Men's Choir and CP Classical Guitar. The classical guitar program is one of the few college prep programs of its type, offered for credit, in the United States. Both solo and ensemble participation are part of these classes. There are classes for the complete beginner (CP Classical Guitar I) as well as advanced study, over the course of years, available to students (CP Classical Guitar II, III, & IV). In addition to performance, guitar history and theory are addressed in these classes. In addition to these are CP Music Appreciation/History and CP Music Theory classes.
A CP Fundamentals of Theatre class is also offered for credit within the department.
We look forward to serving student's needs in the fine arts department as they embark upon their growth at Servite High School. Please come to one of our productions, we would love to have you. Also, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
