The Servite Tennis Program is very pleased to announce the return of Coach Dick Fumanti to the Servite Tennis program after a one year leave of absence. This will be Coach Fumanti's 16th year as a Varsity Tennis Coach. After 32 years as a music teacher, school administrator and a soccer and tennis coach in New York, he retired and moved to California.
The Servite Tennis Team has gone to the CIF Playoffs every year. The Team has won nine league championships, culminanting with a perfect 24-0 record and a CIF Championship in 2000.
Coach Fumanti feels that the success of the tennis program here at Servite has been due to the number of truly outstanding tennis players. Young men like Ryan Moore, who was League MVP three times as well as the CIF and Ojai Tournament Champion. He went to play tennis at USC. Patrick Buchannan was another outstanding player, who was the League Champion four times as well as the Ojai Champion. Pat went on to captain the Notre Dame tennis team, and returned to Servite to coach and share his knowledge with our young men before going on to medical school. Chris and Jeff Belloli were CIF and Ojai Champions in doubles tennis and Jonathan Sanchez is still playing for Brigham Young University. All of these fine players are part of Servite's rich heritage in the world of tennis.
Because the seasons are staggered, Coach Fumanti also coaches the Rosary Royals Tennis Team, and has for the past 20 years! The Royals record is 301 wins and 125 losses overall and 149 wins and 52 losses in league matches. They have won 7 League titles and were the CIF Champions in 1996 and Runners Up in 1991.
