Coach Dane Jako has been teaching Physical Education at Servite for 15 years and this season marks his 14th year as head coach of the golf program. During his tenure, Jako has been named Coach of the Year seven times by various organizations.

The Varsity golf team is coming off another championship season in 2011. The Friars compiled a 17-3 overall record with a 9-1 record in the very competitive Trinity League. Coach Jako guided Servite to its third consecutive Trinity League title, third consecutive CIF Southern Section team championship, third consecutive Orange County Register Player of the Year, as well as a sixth place finish at the State Championship. Preston Valder, who is now playing his collegiate golf at UCLA, won the Trinity League Individual Championship, placed second in the CIF Individual Regional, and was named the Orange County Register Golfer of the Year.

Servite alum, Patrick Cantlay is currently ranked #1 in the world for amateurs. For the past two years Coach Jako has caddied for Patrick at the US Amateur Open tournament where Patrick made it to the semi finals in 2010 and lost in the finals in 2011.

Under Coach Jako’s guidance, the golf program has tripled in size and Servite has become one of the largest programs in all of California. Servite now hosts one of the best high school golf tournaments in Southern California. The Servite Invitational was Coach Jako’s vision and he has now hosted this top-notch event for the past four seasons, of which Servite has won every year, including 2012.
