STUDENT ACTIVITIES
 
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved at Servite. From student leadership to teens interested in the environment, Servite is sure to have a club for you!
 
Academic Decathlon (Mr. Jacob Drainville) A rigorous, challenging extracurricular activity that prepares a team of students to compete in ten academic subjects against other teams in Orange County/ Teams consist of students from all GPA levels. Not for the academically faint-hearted! This club is guaranteed to enrich and intellectually strengthen all who dare to participate.
 
Aliante Club (Mr. Padraic Emparan) Prepares the students for a modern political world by competing in a NATO sponsored international competition. This club increases students’ awareness of the world and the position the United States has in it.
 
Astronomy Club (Mr. Michael Rauterkus) This club strives to spread interest in and teach people about Astronomy. We will do this through field trips, movies, speakers, and the sharing of ideas and information during meetings.
 
Bridges (Mr. Daniel Coates/Mr. Ken Foersch) The Bridges program is a multi-year school inter-group relations and violence prevention program. Bridges partners schools with Orange County Human Relations to create, advocate and sustain a safe, inclusive and equitable campus climate that respects society’s diversity. Bridges empowers members of the campus community to address the human relations needs on their campus. They acquire the skills to work with a diversity of people while improving the human relations climate.
 
Campus Ministry SERVITUS (Mr. Pasquale Talarico/Mr. David Glaudini/Mr. Eddie Murphy/ Mr. Tim Smith) Open to all levels for those students who would like to participate in the activities and projects of the Campus Ministry Department. The Mission of SERVITUS is to serve – the school, its students, faculty and staff – whenever possible. Members of SERVITUS regularly assist the Campus Minister in school liturgy and take responsibility for various service projects that arise during the school year. Service opportunities will vary from regularly scheduled projects to responding to unforeseen needs or emergencies. SERVITUS is an organization for the student who wishes to offer an extra measure of time and effort toward making Servite a stronger, more spiritual community.
 
Comedy Sportz (Mrs. Hillary Pearson/Mr. Robert Dudley) Comedy Sportz High School League is an improvisation team that meets on Friday afternoons through Tri-School Theatre. The team is coached by Comedy Sportz professionals from Los Angeles. The team competes in “improv” matches against other high schools starting in February each year.
 
California Scholarship Federation (CSF) (Ms. Mary Hillman) This club is one which promotes academic recognition of the Servite Scholar and peer assistance to other members and students. Students are given recognition at graduation based upon the number of semesters of active club membership. Applicants must maintain a 3.5 GPA for the previous semester and reapply each semester. Activities include peer tutoring, sponsoring the Christmas Dance, community service projects, and field trips.
 
Film Club (Mr. Jeff Baldo) The Film Club will meet every Wednesday to watch and discuss movies. The point of the club is to foster a greater appreciation for cinema and the visual arts overall. In addition, the goal is to raise money for the poor through private film screenings at either an independent theatre or a specified location.
 
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) (Mr. John Ebbe) This club is established to foster the growth of ethically business-minded students. In cooperation with our Formation goals, we are seeking to participate in the KIVA program to bring recognitions to our individual members and Servite. There are also JSA-like regional and local assemblies in which we will participate.
 
International Thespian Society (Mrs. Hillary Pearson) An Honor Society for students involved in Theatre Arts. Meetings are held after school once a month. Thespians attend the California State and International Festivals annually. There is also a Junior Thespian Division directed by Ms. Jeanne Nellesen which includes junior high students from the Diocesan schools.
 
Junior Statesmen of America (JSA) (Ms. Barbara Messerle Devitt) Junior Statesmen of America is the speech and debate club which devotes its time to area conferences, on-campus guest speakers, one-day seminars, and weekend conventions. Students have exposure to politics and may attend summer schools at Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, and others, as well as symposiums in Los Angeles and Sacramento. Elected officers and positions are available in the State and Region. Group meets every Thursday at lunch.
 
Key Club (Mr. Martin Reynoso) This group is comprised of students from all grade levels. This club donates its time and energy to community service projects throughout Orange County. Sponsored by Kiwanis International. Meets on Thursdays at lunch.
 
Language Arts (Mr. Eliseo Amezcua – Spanish; Dr. Diane Clifford – French; Mr. Padric Emparan - Latin) Clubs which study lifestyles and cultures of these groups. Trips to restaurants, field trips to museums and extra – curricular excursions are arranged. Meetings are usually scheduled every other Wednesday.
 
Math Club (Mr. Tim Wekall) Promotes interest in the field of mathematics. Students have an opportunity to explore the various mentors of this profession and examine their methods of formulas and theories which are common in all phases of the math genre.
 
National Arts Honor Society (NAHS) (Mrs. Karen Van Metre) Inspires and recognizes those students who have shown outstanding ability in art; fosters excellence and a dedicated spirit to the pursuit of art; and furthers creative abilities and talents of the society’s members as well as the school’s entire student art enrollment.
 
National Honor Society (NHS) (Mr. Jacob Drainville) The National Honor Society is for those students who have a B or higher average and maintain that GPA. Various activities involve student Trivia Bowl, peer tutoring, community service projects, and field trips.
 
Peer Assistance League (PAL) (Ms. Deborah Klee-Blashaw) Peer Assistance Leaders (pal) is a group of Servite students trained in peer counseling and conflict mediation. The services that they provide are peer counseling and referral, conflict management, substance abuse prevention, new student orientation, and community outreach. In addition, pal members develop Black Ribbon Week and Sober Prom programs.
 
Pre - Med Club (Mrs. Elizabeth Ochoa) Prepares an introduction to the students by extending the Biology curriculum to introduce them to the medical field.
 
Red Cross (Mr. Joe Swoboda) The Red Cross Club meets once a month or more frequently to plan and execute Servite projects determined by student leaders of the club. We support various public service projects of the Red Cross of Orange County but we are largely focusing on service projects which our students think most important.
 
Robotics Club (Mr. Tomas Colunga) Encourages students to pursue the building, designing, and programming of robots.
 
Speech and Debate (Friar Prophets) (Dr. Michael Miller) Servite’s competitive speech and debate team. Students meet to hone speaking and argumentation skills. Members practice regularly to prepare for regional high school tournaments.
 
St. Thomas More (Ms. Jennifer Turner) The club’s challenge and mission is to have St. Thomas More be known and loved, especially for his spiritual strength, and his devotion to his family. This club examines how to effectively use style of ethical leadership, his contributions to human culture, his responsible citizenship, his democratic self-government and his statesmanship in every profession.
 
Tri-School Conservatory (Mrs. Hillary Pearson) Meets Thursdays and Fridays in the theatre (3:30-5:00 p.m.). In association with Rosary and Connelly, Tri-School Theatre students have an opportunity to take classes in acting, musical theatre, play writing, and technical theatre.
 
U.S. History Club (Mr. Ben Van Dyk) The purpose is to provide an opportunity for a continued learning and discussion of U.S. History.
