Parent Council
2008/09 school year
The Parents' Guild and Booster Club have joined forces to create the Servite High School Parent Council. This new partnership will allow the two volunteer groups to strengthen and streamline their efforts enabling them to share resources and increase results. The new structure partners the Parent Council with the Servite staff to provide support in areas most needed. Servite’s success is due in large part to the countless hours that parents volunteer.
Below is a comprehensive look of the new Parent Council structure:
BACKGROUND
As Servite High School celebrates its 50th Anniversary and looks to the future, the community has embraced ambitious goals to move the school forward. These goals include:
- Raising funds to support:
- Increase in academic, artistic and athletic program quality and size
- New academic, athletic and arts facilities
- Improving quality of and compensation for faculty and staff
- Decreasing the frequency and number of times we ask parents for money
In the past, Servite has used two complementary organizations, the Parents’ Guild and the Athletic Booster Club, as mechanisms to raise the resources required to support extra programs and athletic efforts. To raise the resources for our future goals, a more efficient and effective model of organization and fundraising is required.
PARENT COUNCIL
The Parent Council includes seven major components: Coordinating Group, Spiritual Group, Support Group, Events/Activities Group, Athletics Group, Academic Group and the Performing Arts Group.
The Parent Council will coordinate operations and communications within these areas through a council that includes one or two persons from the Coordinating, Spiritual, Support, Events/Activities, Athletics, Academic and the Performing Arts Groups. The Parent Council would be chaired by the Vice President of Advancement and will include at its meetings, the Director of Campus Ministry, the Director of Communications, the Director of Admissions/Formation, the Director of Retail Operations, the IT Director, the Director of Athletics, the Director of Activities and any other faculty or staff working directly with the Parent Council.
The Parent Council would not provide direction to parents working within the council groups or committees, but would work with the administration and staff to coordinate all efforts to maximize effectiveness and efficiency. The Parent Council may also be asked for input on school plans by the executive and/or senior staff teams of the school.
The Parent Council groups and committees work directly with administration and staff members on assigned projects. The Vice President of Advancement is responsible for the overall activity of the Parent Council.
The Coordinating Group is the nerve center of the Parent Council and works with the Vice President of Advancement to track parent participation at Servite to ensure that all parents have the opportunity to provide service to our school community as well as be fully welcomed into the school community.
If you are interested in volunteering and sharing your talents, please fill out our new Volunteer Now! online registration form.
Comments and suggestions are highly encouraged and should be made to the Vice President of Advancement, Frank Talarico ’88 via email at ftalarico@servitehs.org. |
